I was born in Sydney Australia but spent my early years in Bangladesh. I have also lived in Melbourne, Queensland and Japan. I’ve always had a passion for writing and telling stories. After studying media at University, I dabbled in script writing, radio drama and video production before working for several years in marketing. I currently live by the beach in Victoria with my husband and four children.
What inspired me to start writing?
I was first inspired to write children’s picture books by reading great stories to my own children when they were younger. I saw the joy it gave them… and still gives them.
What is my writing style?
My style has a splash of rhythm, a dash of rhyme and is stirred with fun
What book character would I most want to be?
I’d like to be THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR because after eating so many yummy things, he simply turned into a beautiful butterfly
Who is my greatest writing influence?
Lynley Dodd and Dr Seuss
How long does it take to write a story?
Some stories can take years to get right, while other stories can take hours. I wrote The Great Bird Poo War in a few days after wrestling with the idea for months.
What is my favourite word?
HULLABALOO because it’s fun to say, it’s a good rhyming word and it describes my household!
If I could only read one book for the rest of my life, what would it be?
How do I come up with ideas for stories?
I’m always writing and coming up with ideas for new stories, whether I’m in the car, at the beach, cooking dinner or at home. Some ideas just pop into my head, some ideas are sparked from something I’ve seen or something someone has said, while other ideas are based on an experience.
